Project Overview

Rising 41 stories over Manhattan’s Morningside Heights, 100 Claremont was envisioned as a modern residential tower rooted in history. Designed in the Gothic Revival style by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, and developed by Lendlease, LMXD and Daiwa House Texas, Inc., the building was constructed on the historic Union Theological Seminary campus.

The challenge? Implement a comprehensive security system that would elevate resident safety – without compromising the building’s architectural integrity.

The SMS Approach

Security Management Systems (SMS) delivered a fully integrated solution designed to blend seamlessly with the aesthetics of the space while meeting modern standards for access control and life safety. The system provides intuitive control for residents and staff, along with reliable performance in emergency situations.

Technology Highlights

Installed systems include:

  • 230 Aiphone apartment intercom units for resident communication

  • 60 doors with Genetec access control and surveillance integration

  • 90 Axis security cameras for sitewide visibility

  • Area of refuge intercom systems for code-compliant emergency assistance

Results

The completed system protects residents without interfering with the building’s classical design. SMS helped the project team meet safety requirements while preserving the character and prestige of a landmark institution. The result is a secure, sophisticated living environment that honors its past while looking toward the future.
